Menular ("Menular," "we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application operated by Cosible LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Menular app, how we collect it, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. By using Menular, you agree to the practices described here.
This policy applies to the Menular iOS app and to menular.com. A link to this policy is available inside the app on the Settings screen.
If you have any questions, contact us at support@cosible.com.
Menular is operated by:

Account information. When you sign in, we receive your name and email address from Apple (Sign in with Apple) or Google (Google Sign In). We do not offer email and password sign-in, and we never receive or store your Apple or Google password. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email address, we receive only Apple's private relay address. For users who sign in with Apple, we store an Apple authorization token on our servers. We use this token only to revoke your access if you delete your account.
Profile and preferences. Your display name, your native language, your preferred currency, and your location-detection setting.
Content you create. The Ask Staff Questions you write, the menus you favorite, and the words, phrases, and dishes you bookmark for learning. Ask Staff Questions are free text that you compose yourself, and they may contain information about your allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions if you choose to write it. See "Sensitive information you choose to provide" below.
Menu scan data. When you scan a menu, we keep the extracted, structured text of the menu (such as the restaurant name and the dish and beverage information). If your location-detection setting is on, we also store the general location of the scan (city, region, and country).
Usage history. A record of which menus you have scanned and when, so you can return to them and filter them.
Purchase information. When you buy a scan pass, a scan credit pack, or a Language Learner add-on, we store the Apple StoreKit transaction identifier, the price paid, and the details of what you purchased. Apple, not Menular, processes your payment, so Menular never receives or stores your payment card number or any other payment information.
Device location. We only use your device location if you turn on location detection, and iOS will ask for your permission before we can access it. When it is on, we use your approximate location for two purposes: to detect the country and currency of a scanned menu so we can convert prices into your home currency, and to let you filter your scan history by the location where each menu was scanned. If location detection is off, or if you deny or later revoke the iOS location permission, we do not access your location, and the rest of the app continues to work.
We collect information in three ways: directly from you when you type it into the app (your profile, your staff questions, your bookmarks), automatically from the app when you use it (scan records, entitlement balances, purchase records), and from third parties who authenticate or bill you (Apple and Google provide your name and email at sign-in, Apple and RevenueCat provide purchase confirmations). We do not buy personal information from data brokers and we do not collect information about you from any other source.
Menular asks for the following iOS permissions, and explains why at the moment it asks:
You can change or withdraw any of these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
The Ask Staff Questions feature lets you write your own questions for restaurant staff. If you choose to write about food allergies, intolerances, or medical or religious dietary restrictions, that text is health-related or otherwise sensitive information about you. We store it on our servers so it is available across your devices and trips, and we send it to our translation provider so it can be rendered in the menu's language and shown to restaurant staff.
We use this information only to provide that feature. We do not use it to infer anything about you, we do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell or share it. You can edit or delete any Ask Staff Question at any time in the app, and deleting your account removes all of them.
If you are a California resident, this text may qualify as sensitive personal information under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA. We use and disclose it only for the purpose of providing the Service you requested, which is a permitted use that does not require an option to limit its use. We do not sell or share sensitive personal information.
Menu photos. The photo you take of a menu is used only to extract text (optical character recognition) and is then discarded. We do not store menu images. Only the extracted text that reads as menu content is kept. Background content that does not read as a menu is not retained.
Payment information. As noted above, Menular does not collect or store any payment card or billing information. All payments are handled by Apple.
Third-party analytics and advertising trackers. Menular does not use any third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or cross-app tracking software. We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and we do not use the Apple advertising identifier. We do keep basic internal operational logs about each scan (such as the size of the menu and its processing cost) to run and improve the Service. These logs are not linked to your identity and contain no user account information.
You can use a limited number of free scans before you sign in. During this time, your scans and the resulting menu data are stored only on your device, not on our servers, and are not tied to any account. This on-device free-scan count resets if you reinstall the app.
When you sign in for the first time, Menular transfers the menus you scanned on your device into your new account, so you do not lose the work you did before signing in. After you sign in, your data is stored and handled as described in the rest of this policy.
We use the information above to:
These are the only purposes for which we use your information. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any secondary purpose, and we do not use your content to train artificial intelligence models.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information on the following legal bases: performance of a contract with you (providing the Service and your purchases), our legitimate interests (keeping the Service secure and preventing abuse), your consent (device location, and any sensitive information you choose to write into an Ask Staff Question), and compliance with legal obligations (tax and financial record keeping). You can withdraw consent at any time by turning off location detection or by deleting the relevant content.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising. Menular contains no ads, and we do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
We share information only with the service providers (sub-processors) that make Menular work, and only as needed for them to perform their function. These are:
| Sub-processor | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account authentication, database, and secure storage of your app data |
| Google Cloud Vision | Optical character recognition (converting your menu photo to text) |
| Google (Gemini) | Menu parsing, dish enrichment, and translation |
| Google Cloud Text-to-Speech | Generating pronunciation audio |
| Serper.dev | Looking up reference photos for dishes and beverages |
| ExchangeRate-API | Currency conversion |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple and payment processing through StoreKit |
| Google Sign In | |
| RevenueCat | Managing and validating your purchases and entitlements |
When you scan a menu, the menu image is sent to Google Cloud Vision to extract text, and the extracted text is sent to Google (Gemini) to be parsed, enriched, and translated. These providers process the content to return a result to you. We do not retain the menu image after this step.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Menular, our users, or others. If Cosible LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we will notify you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Payments are handled by Apple through StoreKit, and purchases are managed through RevenueCat. We store a record of each purchase (the transaction identifier, the price, and what was bought) so we can deliver, restore, and reconcile your purchases. Menular does not collect or store any payment card number or billing information.
Menular is operated from the United States, and the service providers above process data in the United States and other countries. If you use Menular from outside the United States, including from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, for these transfers.
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your profile, menus, favorites, bookmarks, staff questions, and scan history (see Account deletion below).
We retain a de-identified record of your purchases (with no personal link back to you) after account deletion, because we need it to meet tax, accounting, and payment-reconciliation obligations. We keep these de-identified records for up to 7 years, consistent with financial record-keeping requirements.
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom (GDPR), these rights apply to you, and you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. As stated above, we do not sell or share personal information, and we use sensitive personal information only to provide the Service you requested. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app deletion option or email us at support@cosible.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app. No email, form, or support request is required. When you delete your account, we permanently and immediately remove your profile, your saved and favorited menus, your bookmarks, your staff questions, and your scan history. This is a permanent deletion, not a temporary deactivation, and it cannot be undone.
If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke your Apple authorization token at the time of deletion.
As noted above, we retain a de-identified record of your past purchases for tax and reconciliation purposes. This record is no longer linked to your identity after deletion.
Deleting your account affects your entitlements. Any unused scan credits, an active scan pass, or remaining bookmark capacity from a Language Learner add-on are permanently forfeited on deletion and cannot be restored. See the Terms of Service for details.
Menular is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old to use Menular. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@cosible.com and we will delete it.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including authentication through Supabase, encryption of data in transit using HTTPS, encryption at rest by our hosting provider, and secure handling of your data by the providers listed above. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app. Your continued use of Menular after an update means you accept the revised policy.
